THE CLO NA CROON
Rubicon Overdrive is set among a vast collection of colourful and exciting planets known as the Clo Na Croon (CNC).
Many of these planets fall under the jurisdiction of Dominion, an empire ruled over by the Almighty Lord Dominor, the Magistars of the High Houses, and the Court of Axions.
However there are still many independent planets known collectively as the Fringe. Fringe planets may be at war, peacefully trade, or simply be as yet undiscovered by Dominion. Fringe planets are often wild places where the Elemental spirits still hold sway, and magic has not yet been exiled to fairytales. Some people of the Fringe worlds even speak of the legendary Avatars as if they yet roam free.
Most of the known planets in the CNC are populated by humans (or humanoid) species, but strange animals, plants, and manufactured creatures also abound, and from the outer Fringes come whispers of highly intelligent, ancient, non-human life…
The establishment of Dominion occurred over a surprisingly short period of time, accelerated by the invention of the Rubicon Drive. This device allowed enormous ships to be able to cross the CNC in a fraction of the time and at much lower risk than was previously imagined. How such a powerful device was created is still the source of great secrecy and speculation, but many believe this to be the first great intervention of 42N, and the beginning of its enigmatic rise to power within the bureaucracy of Dominion. But that is a story for another day…
Dominion now wields enormous military, technological and economic power, but its resources have become stretched to their limits. This has led to a state of uneasy peace with most unconquered Fringe planets, and attempts at more diplomatic methods of control.
